YOUR FIRST FLIP TRICK... THE KICKFLIP.
BACK TO TIPS MENU

01 A kickflip is a flip trick, meaning that your board flips over under your feet and you land back on it. Start with your feet in a similar position to an ollie, although your toes should be in the centre of the board this time (rather than your full foot in an ollie), this is because your foot needs to be able to get off the edge of your board and back really quickly.

02 As you push down on your tail and drag your front foot up the
board (like a usual ollie) you should kick your front foot off the heel edge of your board. This gives the board the flip.

03 You can now see how your board will flip under your feet, but don't forget the aside this, everything
else is the same as an ollie, (i.e. crouching, popping, pulling the
back foot up etc) as you'll need some height to give the board
some time to flip all the way over under your feet.

04 Learn how the board flips depending on how hard you kick it, to get a good idea of when you'll need to put your feet back, because when doing them on the flat, there's not much time to 'see' the griptape coming round and then doing it - in these early stages it needs to be more of an instinct.

05 When these first start working, you'll probably be landing them with the board already on the floor, although the more you do them, the higher they will get and eventually you'll be able to catch them with your feet in the air (stop them flipping more after a full flip) and put them back down to the ground like in the sequence.

06 Put it back down to the ground with your feet on the truckbolts as usual. This trick will take a lot of practice, but keep at it as it's a
great looking trick that you can do anywhere once mastered. Initially, you might want to practice landing them with one foot on the ground for stability. Another thing to watch out for is landing them Promo (with your deck on it's side and your feet on
the edge of your deck) as it can be painful. It's better to spend time learning to flip it right that dragging yourself off the floor time after time. Remember, keep practicing!
