THE HEELFLIP.
BACK TO TIPS MENU

01 A heelflip is similar to a kickflip although this time you’ll be flipping the board over toward to toe edge of your board. Start with your feet in a similar stance to an ollie, but have your front foot hanging over your toe edge of the board slightly. This will help with you flip and bring your foot back to the board quicker.

02 As you pop your ollie motion, kick your foot (sort of a roll actually) off the toe edge of your board. At first the board will try to point upwards, but as you get more confident and flip a little later this will stop happening.

03 As your board flips underneath you (the opposite way to a kickflip) aim to stay over it. If it goes behind you, this could be due to your back foot being too far over the toe edge of the board, so try and keep the back foot in the centre of the tail.

04 Catching the board to stop it flipping maybe scary at first as it flips the opposite way to a kickflip, and might feel as if you can’t see the flip. It’s a good idea to practice catching it with your back foot only at first to get the feeling, so after you have flipped it, put your front foot on the floor.

05 When you eventually start catching these in the air, you might notice that you ‘stamp’ them down harder than kickflips, increasing your chances of snapping your board, so be sure to practice landing with your feet over the truck bolts.

06 Again, because of the harder landing, make sure you bend your knees to lessen strain on your legs. This trick is much more poppy than a kickflip due to the nature of the technique.
