VARIAL KICKFLIP.
BACK TO TIPS MENU

01 This trick is a simple combination of a kickflip and a pop shove it. Start with your feet in a similar stance to the kickflip, but have your back foot toward the toe edge of the board, as if to do a shove it.

02 There are two ways to look at this: Either as a pop shove it with a flip, or as a kickflip with a shove it. Treating it as any one of these will help you get your head around the movement. As you pop your ollie, don’t just pop it as you normally would an normal ollie, treat it like a shove it and scoop it round with the pop.

03 As you scoop it round with your back foot, your front foot should be doing exactly as it would in a normal kickflip, although this time slightly kick ‘up’ to the nose of the board rather than outwards.

04 As with a pop shove it, these may not stay under your feet straight away, so you may need to watch where they go (usually forward and out toward the toe edge) and aim to land your feet there. During the flip try and stay right over your board, by jumping forward when popping it.

05 This can be tricky to catch as it is flipping and sinning, take time to learn how much power to use when shoving it round to be confident with where it’s going to be when it comes back around.

06 Landing these is difficult because if the board has slightly under or over rotated on the shove it you will really notice this and it may throw you off balance. Also be careful not to land too much on the back end of your board. As you start to stay above your board move you will be able to achieve a truck bolt landing. Remember to bend your knees to absorb some of the pressure of the landing. Next get them big!
